The latest operating system from Apple for iPhone devices is iOS 17.3.
Some interesting new features in this version include a new wallpaper, a new AirPlay feature for hotel rooms, a new protection for stolen devices and improvements to crash detection. I will detail each of these new features in this article.

NEW WALLPAPER
Unity Bloom

A new wallpaper called Unity Bloom, which celebrates diversity and inclusion, appears in iOS 17.3. This wallpaper has a colourful design that changes with the device. There are four wallpaper options: red, green, multicolour and black. To apply the new wallpaper, go to the lock screen, tap the “Add” button and select the “Unity Bloom” option highlighted. In addition, the new Unity Bloom watch face and the same wallpaper are available for Apple Watch.

AirPlay in hotel rooms

With AirPlay in iOS 17.3, users can stream videos from their iPhone or iPad to the TV in their hotel room. By using this feature, they can watch videos, photos, music or presentations on the big screen without cables or adapters. To use AirPlay in hotel rooms, simply scan a QR code on the TV and this will connect the device to the hotel’s Wi-Fi network and allow wireless communication.

Apple announced that LG would be the first manufacturer of commercial hotel TVs to support AirPlay.

Protection for stolen devices

iOS 17.3 includes a new layer of protection for stolen devices that prevents criminals from erasing or restoring the device without the owner’s consent. This feature, called stolen device protection, requires the user to enter the device passcode or iCloud password, and the device will then start a security delay of 15 minutes to 24 hours, depending on the number of failed attempts, if the user tries to do this in an unrecognised location. During this period, the device will send a notification to the owner informing them of the location and time of the attempt to disable it.

Optimisations in crash detection

It also includes optimisations to crash detection, a function that allows the device to call emergency services automatically in the event of a serious fall or car accident. This function detects signs of impact and sound through the device’s accelerometer, gyroscope and microphone. If an accident occurs, the device will emit an alert sound and show a five-second countdown. During this period, the user has the option to cancel the call. If the call is not cancelled, the device will dial the emergency number of the country where it is located, share the location and inform that it is an automatic call. These are just some of the improvements added to iOS 17.3, which will be available to iPhone users next week.
