Apple officially introduced AirTag 2 on January 26, 2026, with clear improvements in range, sound, and the overall Find My experience. The goal stays the same: help you locate keys, a backpack, luggage, or a wallet, with less friction and faster results. You’ll find here the new features, what changes in the hardware, the price, and a direct comparison with AirTag 1.
AirTag 2 is a Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband (UWB) tracker that works with the Find My app. If an item sits outside your iPhone’s range, the Find My network helps, with nearby Apple devices that anonymously update the AirTag location in a privacy focused way.
AirTag 2
new features

1. New 2nd generation Ultra Wideband (UWB) chip
The core upgrade is a second generation UWB chip, similar to what Apple uses in the iPhone 17 line and the latest Apple Watch models.
In practice, this improves Precision Finding:
- faster guidance to the item
- more effective haptic, visual, and audio feedback
- <up to 50% more range versus the previous AirTag
2. Bluetooth with longer range
Beyond UWB, AirTag 2 includes an improved Bluetooth chip with more reach, which helps in scenarios where Precision Finding does not apply, or when you stand farther away from the item.
3. Louder speaker, easier to hear
AirTag 2 gets internal changes and a stronger speaker:
- about 50% louder
- sound that carries up to 2x farther in favourable conditions
This helps in common situations, such as keys inside a sofa, a backpack in a car, or a suitcase in a hotel room.
4) Precision Finding on Apple Watch
For the first time, Precision Finding reaches the wrist:
- compatible with Apple Watch Series 9 or later
- or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later
If you have a Watch and your iPhone is not nearby, this changes day to day retrieval.
5. Item location sharing with third parties, with a travel focus
AirTag 2 strengthens item location sharing, with a focus on travel and trusted third party support, such as airlines.
Apple also mentions partnerships with 50+ airlines that can accept shared links to help recover luggage.
6. Privacy and safety stay central
AirTag 2 keeps Apple’s privacy posture:
- no location history stored on the device
- end to end encryption within the Find My network
- anti stalking alerts, with cross platform support

Updated hardware: what changes without a new shape
AirTag 2 keeps the same physical design as the original AirTag and stays compatible with existing accessories, such as key rings, holders, and cases. Most changes sit on the inside:
- second generation UWB chip
- improved Bluetooth
- redesigned speaker with higher volume
AirTag 2 price in Portugal and availability
AirTag 2 arrives with the same price as before:
- $29.00 (single)
- $99.00 (4 pack)
Apple also offers free engraving via the Apple Store.
