Apple announces new iPad Pro with M4, OLED display, and more

Today, Apple unveiled the new iPad Pro models, which include the M4 chip, Ultra Retina XDR OLED displays, an optional nano-texture display finish and several other features. Screen size options are slightly larger, from 11 inches to 13 inches. The 11-inch model is 5.3 mm thick and weighs less than half a kilo, while the 13-inch model is just 5.1 mm thick and weighs a quarter of a kilo less than the previous version. Apple highlights this as the thinnest product the company has ever made. A graphite sheet in the main enclosure and copper in the Apple logo improve the thermal design.

Ultra Retina XDR OLED

display

The iPad Pro’s Ultra Retina XDR OLED display offers improved full-screen brightness of 1,000 nits (SDR) and 1,600 nits (HDR) for peak brightness. It responds better to fast-moving content, delivers deeper blacks, more detail in shadows and low light, brighter highlights and better luminance.

M4 chip

faster and better graphics

The M4 chip uses second-generation 3nm technology and features hardware-accelerated ray tracing, mesh shading and a new display engine. Render performance is up to four times higher and CPU performance is up to 50% better than the previous M2 iPad Pro.

Cameras

The iPad Pro’s 12-megapixel front camera has been moved to the side of the device for a better video calling experience. The rear camera now supports ProRes video recording and Smart HDR 4. It also introduces an Adaptive True Tone flash for improved document scanning.

Other features

For the first time, the iPad Pro is available with an optional nano-texture display. The device enclosure is made from 100% recycled aluminium and comes in Silver and Space Black. The 11-inch model starts at 1,229 dollars and the 13-inch model starts at 1,579 dollars. It is available to order from today and launches on Wednesday, May 15.
