One of the most popular apps among iPhone, iPad and Mac users for navigating the world is Apple Maps. Apple introduced a new feature back in iOS 14 that allows cyclists to receive directions for cycling along bike lanes and roads suitable for bicycles whenever possible.
To access cycling directions in Apple Maps, open the app, tap the transport icon in the top-right corner and choose the bicycle option. Then type the place you want to go and tap “Go”. Apple Maps shows the fastest and safest way to reach your destination by bike, including information such as steep inclines, how much traffic a street has, and whether there are stairs or other obstacles. If you have an Apple Watch, you also receive voice guidance and feedback to help you stay focused on where you are going.
Which countries support cycling directions in Apple Maps
Apple Maps offers cycling directions in the United States, China and Japan, as well as in some major cities around the world, such as London, Barcelona and Toronto. The company keeps a list on its website of all locations where cycling directions are available, but at the time of writing this article, Switzerland and Sweden were still not on the list.
The website iGen.fr reports that overnight, iPhone users in Sweden and Switzerland started to receive notifications about cycling directions. In the near future, we expect Apple Maps cycling directions to roll out to more cities and countries.
