M4 chips for Macs

Apple plans to update its Mac lineup with M4 chips at the end of 2024, just as it did with the M3 family. These chips will focus on improving performance for artificial intelligence capabilities, which are now the big priority for the Cupertino company.

Unified Memory

The M4 chips are expected to come in at least three main variants, codenamed Donan, Brava and Hidra, aimed at different Mac models. Desktop Macs with this chip may support up to 512 GB of Unified Memory, a significant jump from the current 192 GB limit.

They will use the same 3-nanometer process as the M3 chips, but with an improved version to deliver gains in performance and energy efficiency.
