Project cancellation
Apple decided to cancel all plans to launch an autonomous electric vehicle. After more than a decade of development and significant investment, the company concluded that the project was not viable. Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, informed more than 2,000 employees who worked on the Apple Car about the cancellation, and the news came as something of a surprise.

Many will move to the company’s artificial intelligence division, while others will probably face termination of contract. The Apple Car project went through several changes and leadership swaps over the years, which reflected internal problems and strategic indecision.
APPLE’S FUTURE
Despite the end of the Apple Car, Apple still pushes forward in other areas, such as cryptographic security in iMessage, new features in iOS 17.4 and the major changes prepared for iOS 18.
