Vision Pro is an augmented reality device that lets healthcare professionals see the real world through virtual displays that highlight important data. The device was used for the first time in surgeries in the United Kingdom with the aim of “eliminating human error” and improving the safety and efficiency of operations.
How was it used in surgery?
Vision Pro was used for the first time in a spinal operation on a patient at Cromwell Hospital in London. An operating room nurse, who was the only team member wearing the headset, used it while helping to prepare, monitor the procedure and select the right tools.
The device let her view all the information from the surgical plan in real time during the operation, which increased her confidence and accuracy.
Syed Aftab, the surgeon, said the software turned a nurse he had never worked with into someone with ten years of experience.
He said his operating team would be comparable to a Formula 1 team.
