The iPhone Duo is Apple’s venture toward foldable cellphones. It was released on September 9, 2026 with dual displays, an A20 Pro chip and an interface geared around running multiple apps at the same time. Pricing in the US begins at $1,999 and it will be available on October 23.
The new foldable iPhone has a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR interior display. When closed it opens messages, photographs and applications. When you open it has extra area for videos, articles and work.
The frame is made of grade 5 titanium and has an IP68 water and dust resistant rating. It has an Apple-developed coating that boosts scratch resistance and a nano-texture finish that is designed to reduce reflections and the visibility of creases.
The iPhone Duo is offered in Star White and Nite Sky, with Touch ID integrated into the side button. Support for Apple Pencil on both displays will be added later in 2026.
iOS 27 with Side-by-Side Apps
iOS 27 is designed for the foldable format, with controls on the sides and a vertical dock. Users can open two apps side-by-side, or several windows of the same app, like Safari.
App pairs can also be saved so they can be reopened together. This might make a lot of routine work easier for anyone who has to look at a webpage while writing or comparing information.
The interface reorients itself to the position of the device, even if half folded. The exterior display also allows picture subjects to preview the shot and can display animations to grab the attention of children.
A20 Pro and 48MP Cameras
The A20 Pro chip has a new engine that can drive both displays at the same time. The C2 modem takes care of the cellular connection.
For photography, the iPhone Duo packs a 48MP Fusion primary camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera. It also features a 12MP 2x zoom option and can shoot 4K 120 fps video.
The exterior display has a 12MP Center Stage camera and the inside camera is under the panel. Top and bottom speakers provide spatial sounds.
Battery life and fast charging
Each component of the device has its own battery, but they work together as one. Video playback time is up to 31 hours on the inner display, or 44 hours on the exterior display, says Apple.
Fast charging will get you to 50% in about 20 minutes. Battery life varies by use and configuration.
