Apple has announced the Mac mini M6, its first update to its compact desktop computer in nearly two years. The new model preserves the compact exterior look of the previous model but includes significant improvements in performance, artificial intelligence, storage and connectivity.
Apple’s new M6 microprocessor, the first semiconductor from the firm built on a 2nm fabrication process, lies at the heart of the Mac mini. The line-up gets a beefier Mac mini with the M5 Pro chip for creative professionals and developers.
Apple M6 chip offers a major performance boost
The M6 has a 12-core CPU with two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores. The architecture gives up to 40% quicker multi-core performance compared to the M4 chip, Apple says.
Its 12-core GPU is also two cores bigger than the previous version. Neural Accelerators in the GPU cores allow the computer perform AI tasks up to four times faster than the M4 Mac mini. Graphics performance can be two times the preceding model.
Apple also features a twin 16-core Neural Engine that can deliver up to double the performance of the previous model.
Faster memory and SSD storage
The entry-level Mac mini M6 comes with 16GB of unified memory, with up to 32GB available. Memory bandwidth is 170GB/s, up from 120GB/s on the M4.
The base model comes with a 256GB SSD. Storage is up to twice as fast as the previous generation, which could help speed up file transfers and help apps load faster, Apple says.
Apple’s studies show the M6 Mac mini delivers up to 4.8 times the AI performance of the M4 in LM Studio. It can also deliver double the performance in Cyberpunk 2077 with enhanced light effects.
Wi-Fi 7 and upgraded ports
The Mac mini M6 uses Apple’s N1 processor to support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. There is now a conventional 2.5Gb Ethernet port and a 10Gb Ethernet option for consumers.
There are three Thunderbolt 4 connections on the rear panel, HDMI and Ethernet. On the front you’ll find two USB-C connections and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Apple also implemented Genlock compatibility over USB-C. This capability enables for accurate synchronization between the Mac, professional cameras and external displays.
Mac mini M6 price and release date
The Mac mini M6 costs $899 in the United States, a $100 increase over the previous base model. Pre-orders opened on 25 August 2026, with the first deliveries and store availability set for 22 September. The Mac mini with M5 Pro costs $1,699 in the US.
