The Touchscreen MacBook Pro is here. Apple today announced a new professional laptop with an OLED display, M5 Pro and M5 Max CPUs, and direct touch input. The version also sees the return of the lighted Apple logo on the lid.
The new MacBook Pro is available in two sizes, and offers touch as another way to interact with the Mac, along with its keyboard and trackpad.
OLED Touchscreen: The Biggest Upgrade
The new PROLED XDR display uses tandem OLED technology. Key features include:
- Up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness.
- A 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
- ProMotion adaptive refresh rates from 10Hz to 120Hz.
- An antireflective coating and optional nano-texture glass.
Users may scroll over webpages, zoom onto photographs and drag stuff between apps with touch gestures. The strengthened hinge stabilizes the display during touch input. MacOS turns touch input into clicks, thus most existing apps are touch compatible right away, according to MacRumors.
Creative pros may like to swap between a mouse, trackpad and touchscreen, depending on the task, say photo review or arranging slides.

Dynamic Island and a Lighter Design
The notch is replaced with the Dynamic Island, which creates an interactive area for Live Activities, Spotlight and Siri AI. They feature 14.2- and 16.3-inch screens with thinner bezels.
The reported weights starts around 3 pounds for the 14-inch model and 4 pounds for the 16-inch model. This model sports a new look with a lighter chassis and lighted Apple logo.

M5 Pro and M5 Max Power the Touchscreen Models
While “M5 MacBook Pro” is a common shorthand, these touchscreen models specifically employ M5 Pro or M5 Max CPUs. They employ the same processors as the current professional models, but without the OLED touch panels.
Configurations up to 128GB of unified memory and 16TB of storage are available. Apple has also modified the thermal architecture to route warm air away from the display.
The correct configuration relies on your applications and projects. Before you buy, memory and storage requirements are particularly important in video production, 3D work and huge media libraries.

Battery Life and Ports
Apple says advertised battery life of up to 24 hours. Available connections include:
- Three Thunderbolt 5 ports.
- HDMI.
- An SD card slot.
- MagSafe 3.
- A headphone jack.
According to the publication, external display support reaches three monitors with M5 Pro and four with M5 Max.

US Price and Release Date
The 14-inch OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro starts at $2,899 in the United States, while the 16-inch variant starts at $3,399.
Preorders start October 28 and it will be available November 6, 2026. The new OLED variants will join the existing mini-LED MacBook Pro portfolio.
The big selling point is an OLED touchscreen and a lighter design. If you already have an M5 Pro or M5 Max MacBook Pro, the decision to upgrade mostly comes down to how much those display and design upgrades matter to your daily work.
